Strengthening Partnerships and Addressing Statelessness in Bangladesh

NFA’s Executive Director, Subin Mulmi, and Program Coordinator, Melinda Anne Sharlini, recently visited the office of one of our partner organizations, the Council of Minorities, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. They were accompanied by Amal de Chickera, Co-Director of the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion.

During the four-day visit, the team engaged with the dedicated staff of the Council of Minorities, including their passionate para-legal officers who support the civil documentation process for the camp-dwelling Urdu-speaking communities in Bangladesh. The visit also included participation in a roundtable discussion on the issue of statelessness in Bangladesh.

Additionally, the team met with key organizations working on this critical issue, including the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), Research Initiatives Bangladesh (RIB), and the Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ) at BRAC University. These meetings were integral in strengthening partnerships and discussing collaborative efforts to address statelessness in the region.
