UNHCR Regional Bureau Asia Pacific and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam organised the Southeast Asian Senior Officials’ Roundtable on Civil Registration, Legal Identity Documentation, and the Prevention of Statelessness on October 25, 2023. The event was attended by government representatives of Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Civil society organisations and academics working on the issue were also at the event.
NFA’s Executive Director, Subin Mulmi participated in the event as an observer. The government representatives shared good practices for resolving statelessness in their respective countries and discussed collective approaches to addressing the causes of statelessness in the region.
