Regional Partners’ Retreat 2024

Strengthening Leadership, Solidarity, and Sustainability Through Peer Learning

Date: 14 – 17 September 2024
Venue: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Co-facilitated by: Nationality for All (NFA) and Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion (ISI)

From 14 to 17 September 2024, Nationality for All (NFA) and the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion (ISI) co-facilitated a three-day regional retreat in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The gathering brought together NFA’s three partner organisations — the Council of Minorities (Bangladesh), the Citizenship Affected People’s Network (Nepal), and Family Frontiers (Malaysia) for an immersive period of reflection, learning, and collaboration. 🌿

A Space for Reflection and Shared Growth

The retreat created an intentional space for peer learning and deep reflection on leadership, organisational development, and the wellbeing of those at the forefront of statelessness advocacy. Over the course of three days, participants engaged in interactive sessions exploring:

  • Wellbeing and self-care in advocacy and movement spaces
  • Values-driven leadership and collective accountability
  • Building sustainable and resilient organisations
  • Understanding and strengthening paralegal work
  • Strategic and ethical fundraising

Through open dialogue and shared storytelling, participants reflected on what it means to lead with integrity, care, and community — ensuring that advocacy for nationality rights remains both impactful and human-centred.

Building Solidarity Across Borders

The retreat also served as a powerful reminder of the strength that emerges when regional partners come together. Leaders and emerging leaders from across Bangladesh, Nepal, and Malaysia exchanged insights from their local contexts, uncovering common challenges, innovative strategies, and opportunities for cross-border collaboration.

By centring lived experiences and peer exchange, the gathering reinforced the importance of solidarity, trust, and collective care as foundations for sustainable movement-building.

Looking Ahead

The retreat was a deeply enriching and inspiring experience, renewing a shared sense of purpose and connection among all partners. As the participants return to their respective countries, they carry with them new ideas, strengthened relationships, and a reaffirmed commitment to advancing the right to nationality and ending statelessness across the Asia-Pacific region.

💛 Together, we are stronger and together, we continue the journey toward dignity, inclusion, and justice for all.
