Areej Alshammiry is a research advisor on the project. She is an interdisciplinary scholar, researcher, and advocate with over a decade of experience spanning academia, policy research, international advocacy, and community-based work. Her work is grounded in social justice and community action, with expertise in statelessness, forced migration, gender-based violence, and decolonial knowledge production. Areej brings a unique blend of academic experience, qualitative and oral history research, community organizing, and policy analysis—shaped by her lived experience and transnational engagement with communities and organizations.
Her wide knowledge gives and interdisciplinary understanding of policy problems as they are experienced by frontline workers, along with her academic training has equipped her with strong skills in conducting empirical research, writing policy briefs, and producing analytical reports. Areej is committed to justice-centered, community-rooted approaches, and engages research and advocacy as tools for collective knowledge building and transformative change.
